Abstract

This descriptive study was conducted to to identify the knowledge of stroke and educational needs in care workers.
Methods: Participants (N=255) were collected by convenience sampling throughout 27 home cares and long-term service centers in Seoul, Korea. The data was collected from the January 30th, to April, 2014. The level of knowledge was assessed using Questionnaires. Data were statistically analyzed by t-test, the ANOVA, and Tukey test using the SPSS program.
Results: The mean knowledge scores for basic, symptoms and risk factors were 4.95 ¡¾ 0.99(out of 6), 10.36 ¡¾ 2.53(out of 15) and 10.90 ¡¾ 2.51 ¡¾ 3.9 (out of 16), respectively. The results of the study shows that the care workers showed significant differences in knowledge levels and educational needs of stroke depending on their age, education level, working type, and career.
Conclusion: Nurses must be aware that it is necessary to establish a concrete and individual stroke educational program for the care workers.
